“Applying to this competition isn't about whether your 401(k) is up or down right now. It's about educating folks on the importance of investing for their future -- for the long term. Investments are rocky -- that is expected, normal, known. When crashes happen, how long they happen for, etc., is unknown but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be investing for our future and teaching others to do the same.
“If we can get through the downturns (and help others do so as well), we will end up in a much better position when we want to retire, and that is why it's still worth pursuing this and continuing to get the word out.”
